This is a slightly redesigned deck builder that’s been on the market for more than a decade, and it feels like it. I’d say it’s the worst deck builder I’ve ever played. The fact that the retail version also doesn’t come with a whack load of cards that the rule book explicitly states is Kickstarter only content does not help my opinion either (nothing against Kickstarter, but it’s a let down to buy a game only to find out you’re missing close to a quarter of the “original” content).
This game is clumsy and is the most anticlimactic board game I’ve ever played, it was plain boring.
If you want a good deck builder check out Shadowrift, Xenoshyft, or Terrors of London.
This is one of only two games (out of a few hundred) that I will never play again.
This game is deeper than a lot of deck-builders out there, and from the games I've played, this can lead to it feeling slower as well. If this doesn't scare you off, I'd argue that Thunderstone Quest is one of the most unique and possibly one of the best entries in this genre. It does so many things that I've never seen before, and has a much more integrated theme than any other deck-builder I've played to this point. Complete with multiple campaigns and game modes to try, there is a ton of content and variety here for your money. If you like deck-builders or dungeon crawlers, and you don't mind medium to heavier games, this is a must own!
