Root: The Clockwork Expansion 2
It's early on in the RDI franchise, but this was the first pack when characters started having attacks and defence options for alcohol content. Brewmaster Phrenk has a very unique mechanic where he can sell potions to other players, which there is nothing like in the whole series. The other characters can also pack a decent punch, though they don't end up on the table as much as Phrenk does.
I bought this almost entirely just for the Sea Event Deck, which I found, when combined with the Dungeon Event Deck from RDI 6, can really speed up the game.
This pack contains 4 characters, 3 of which don't have their own mechanic, but one of those 3, Bryn, is my go-to character because her deck is so defensive. Really makes people think twice before attacking you.
As far as Red Dragon Inn itself goes, the game is one of my favourites, but I have several house rules to make up for glaring issues such as game length, unbalanced characters, and player elimination, as well as games for larger player counts.
I haven't felt like the characters in this pack needed any house rules to balance them, so I think it's a good starter option if you're new to Red Dragon Inn.
If you love Pandemic, then it's probably a good buy for you. To me, it was largely more of the same, just with slightly tweaked mechanics. The inclusion of two variants is nice though.
Honestly, I love this game. Multiple ways to play, lots of variation in characters and objectives, and having one player control the zombies and the search deck really adds to it.
My only gripes are set up can take a bit, and the randomness of objectives chosen for the game can result in an easier game for either team. I'll probably eventually get the playmat to keep the table organized and so it doesn't slip around as much.
The Item Meeples are cool, but I don't bother with them since they're purely aesthetic.
Small box, several modes to play, and lots of randomization for replayability.
