A marvelous fantasy hex and counter game with awesome production values, beautiful map and counter art, and fairly easy to learn rules. A generous amount of scenarios to play for 2-6 players will keep players busy for a very long time. A lore book and tarot sized hero cards are thrown in, just for bling and show the love that went into the game. 2 Dwarven battleaxes way up.

The game is good, with a couple of caveats.
The scenarios available do not offer the flexibility one might hope (you choose scenarios with prescribed factions opposing each other rather than choosing what group you want to play).
The number of them available makes up for this, but if you are playing with just two players, there are only so many scenarios available before you have to play multiple forces. There are enough of them to keep you busy for some time.

The rulebook is constructed in a way that makes it handy to locate certain rules, but difficult to learn from. It makes the game feel far more complicated than it is. The player reference sheets are handy and nice, but leave out some basic things and will be more useful on your second or third game.

All and all, lots of value here.. a nice production, lots of variability, some classic war game vibes with fun unusual twists. Worth playing if you can be patient with the rulebook for a couple of long afternoons until you get the hang of it.

Very happy with Burning Banners; my first chit and hex wargame.

Thick high quality cardboard tokens. Player boards are double-layered and have insert slots. Beautiful hand drawn maps over 4 boards -- which connect depending on size of scenario (art work in general is reminiscent of early 90s). 6 different factions with different strength/weakness. Basic game involves a heavy set of rules (due to amount of different units/spaces/interactions etc), that are quite straightforward once you get going. Advanced rules include magic/cards. Game can run for 2-6 players, but every scenario two teams so you can just control multiple factions if you want to strictly play 2 players.
If you were interested in turn based strategy, but the bland design of a lot of historical themed war games turned you off, this game hits those same notes and does it well.
Also for such a heavy game (literally as well), set up really is quite quick -- open scenario, place boards, grab your factions, and put the tokens on their starting spots (which doesn't require a ton of fiddly placements).
The board state allows for a variety of tactics and strategies and at the end of a scenario you'll have a bunch of "remember when you..." moments to discuss.

Awesome game, awesome components and it took less than a week to arrive. I give the game a rating of 6 out of 5. Worth every penny.
