A tough exploration and racing game requiring timing related to changing seasons and resource management. Interestingly I find the Solo variant better than the multiplayer mode. In multiplayer it is more of a race while resources are critical in the solo variant. I wish resource management played a bigger part of the multiplayer game. Still a great racing game with great production either and a unique theme and weather effect that rewards good timing and navigation. You will get frozen in the ice use your time wisely.
A fantastic Cascadia variant tile placing game with scoring that somehow doesn’t seem as thematic as Cascadia. I’m Cascadia animals scored based on how they might gather in nature. Unfortunately this is lost in Cascadia Alpine Lakes. You also aren’t trying to get the largest grouping of specific terrain possible. Instead You have to balance the paired tiles you draw with the landscape you have currently been able to create. The twist from Cascadia is the elevation. You now have to balance animal and terrain placement with elevation scoring as well. It’s a great balancing problem and I have tried many different ways to improve my scores and keep finding new strategies. Tonnes of replay value with a variety of different scoring cards. The Solo mode is even better than Cascadia with achievements and challenges. Ultimately I like both games and they are different enough that there is space for both on the shelves.
