I love the detail and historical accuracy of this game. The production values for this game are very high.
Only market cards, and that's ok. Some of these are more useful then others but you never know what kind of combos you can pull.

Don't expect to lie around the sun, lazily sipping cocktails and passively watching hula dancers, because the tactical game Hawaii is not a paradise for idlers, but rather for bold, active strategists. Restlessly, they'll move their pieces on the game board, facing constant challenges in terms of making their beautiful villages on this beautiful island as profitable as possible. Only those who will be able to use their dwindling resources to meet the increasing demands over five rounds will find a spot for themselves on the beach.
In Hawaii, players must make use of their limited resources to score points by growing their villages and exploring the surrounding islands. Your chieftains move around the board to purchase new tiles for their villages, hopefully grabbing the best deals before their opponents. Three different currencies are used to pay for these trips, so make sure you don't run out of any of them too quickly. Players are also rewarded for providing for their people (measured essentially by how much they bought on a given turn), but your meager income shrinks as the game goes on. Players will have to balance a number of ways to score points to secure their victory.
Had a chance to play this at FallCon 2012 in Calgary, AB! Game includes Kingsburg placement of your player token on one of dozen options, judiciously spending your currency to generate more income for the next round, purchasing a larger canoe for fishing off the island, a miasmatic variety of scoring bonus points, God idols that give various empowering effects per round, variable turn order mechanic (including increasing bonuses for going 2nd, 3rd, 4th...), and at least 3 areas for progressively larger endgame point bonuses. Each placement on the Hawaiian mainland has a single and double side option, allowing twice the production of whichever tile you choose to add to your personal village ( la Alhambra) allowing you to pay twice the cost for twice the benefit. Each round requires to reach a minimum level of shells (one of three currencies in the game, along with green fruit which pays for tile purchasing as well as feet which control how far into the mainland you are permitted to mobilize your character token) to achieve end of round bonus points, going from 1st to 3rd with diminishing bonus rewards. Excellent game for seasoned gamers as well as an excellent gateway game that only requires one play for full understanding. As each of the commodity tiles on the mainland changes (randomized placing per game), no two sessions are alike!
