This is a good game for parties, but be careful about the more mature set of cards. We missed these in with the basic set without really looking at them first, and this was the cause of a certain amount of embarrassment when we played the game with my parents. Not the best idea.

I offloaded my El Grande Big Box in favour of the New Edition and am very glad I did. The new edition cuts away all of the superfluous content in the Big Box and instead focuses on the core game which gave El Grande its Classic status.
The new edition is much more attractive than the original design and looks great on the table. Finally this game looks as good as it plays! A top 10 game of all time for me.
New edition looks way better, but box is way too big and oddly long shape.
