In Manhattan, players are constructing a skyline of skyscrapers over several districts, or city blocks, of Manhattan Island. Ultimately, each player seeks to have built the tallest buildings in the most city blocks of the Island.
Each turn, players will play a card that illustrates which part of a city block they may place a "floor" on a building. The placement card is unique for each player in that the section they may place in is relative to their seating at the table. The player who has placed the top most floor controls that building. Each round, scores are tallied based on control of each of the neighborhoods.
At the end of the game, the player who has scored the most points through area control and tallest buildings, wins.
Half off, good product.
Picked up the 'New Edition' of Manhattan, after owning the original for 22 years. It's more extravagantly colorful than the original, which featured three, pastel-shaded and one jet black set of 'building blocks.' The board itself is the same way and the scoring track is laid out around the board, instead of in its original, three-column track. Thanks to you, my nephew, who's coveted the game since he played it originally with me as a teenager. Now a full-fledged, Armed Services adult, he'll now soon own his own copy, albeit one with a few evident 'miles' on it (yes, I gave him my old one and did not gift him with the new one. I'm a 'good guy' uncle, just not that good). Still a great game; unique mechanics, simple rules and a highly-competitive 'feel' to it. Nothing like it on the market, which has grown tremendously since Manhattan won Germany's Spiel de Jahres (Game of the Year) award in 1994.
fun game.
Simple gaming mechanics yet possibility for complex strategy. The updated graphic and components fully transport the game into the 21th century.
